Many patients ask us what our feelings are about amalgam (silver/mercury) fillings. Our feeling is that this material is now obsolete. We do not use amalgam. We feel that modern materials entirely supersede silver amalgam restorations; however we do not routinely remove all amalgam restorations.

Many of our patients ask for their silver fillings to be replaced with white fillings, which we are happy to do, purely as a matter of personal preference. Quite simply if we can improve on the appearance and integrity of the restored tooth. However this is most importantly a decision for the patient!
